The Black Entertainment Television Awards‘ red carpet boasted fabulous dresses that expressed the diverse personalities and styles in the industry. It wasn’t easy to pick the best dress, but Mayte Garcia‘s gorgeous open back mermaid gown topped my list. Lavishly embellished with appliquéd flowers from the neck to the long train this gown rocked so many fantastic details.
Want to capture the BET Mayte Garcia look in your next formal dress? Take a look at these
5 Embellished Mermaid Gowns
Sequins cover the bodice of a red lace mermaid dress. This dress shimmers luxuriously thanks to the sheer black overlays. The lace motif repeats itself on the sheer back for a dazzling formal look.
Who can resist the flowers that cascade down Jovani’s floral embroidered evening gown? This black evening gown has a short train and sheer fabric that gives you a coverage yet still shows a bit of skin.
I love the baroque appliqués that cover the back and godets of this red Jasz evening dress. The sheer fabric gives the impression of an open back. Built in bra cups makes this floor length gown easy to wear with maximum sophistication.
Looking for open back red lace mermaid dress that costs less than $100? Here you go. This long sleeve gown has an ivory lining that highlights the red lace. A large keyhole cut out gives the open back look, but the top closure and back zipper keep everything in place.
That same keyhole cut out is featured in this black and silver open back tulle dress. Lace appliqués embellish the flared mermaid skirt, giving this gown flashes of light as you walk. This lace and tulle gown embodies an elegant style.
Not everyone can claim the ties to Prince that Mayte can, but at least we can emulate her red carpet style with a gorgeous open back mermaid gown.

Black dresses have become a staple since Audrey Hepburn wandered down the streets of Manhattan in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. They say that every woman needs a little black dress. Whether for an internship, semi formal reception, night out or funeral, the black dress is always appropriate. Just ask the Europeans! Women in Milan, Paris and New York often live in black for its sleek, practical style.
Need a black dress in your budget? Today I share:
5 Little Black Dresses less than $100
Sleeveless and swingy, the A line black lace dress never goes out of style. Scattered sequins shimmer across this lace semi formal dress. A sweetheart lining adds an extra spin, offering covered shoulders with that touch of sheer skin.
Channel your best Audrey Hepburn with this scoop neck dress. A jersey knit, figure hugging black dress is a sexy layer that you can easily style for work, date night or cocktail receptions.
Faux pearls embellish the cuffs and neckline long sleeve chiffon shift. This elegant black dress has a lined dress body and sheer sleeves. Thanks to the beaded accents, you can slip on this lbd and a pair of heels to head out the door on your night out or special occasion.
A bateau neckline and short sleeves add a cosmopolitan touch to this black midi dress. Knit jersey and a slim profile combine for a comfortable yet figure hugging base layer to style as your occasion requires.
Want your lbd to be pretty, swingy and practical? Let me suggest this pleated halter dress with pockets. The halter neckline bares your shoulders. From the collar, pleats and a bias cut create a swingy dress with side seam pockets.
Believe it or not, all of these little black dresses cost less than $100. Which dress would you choose? Keep a cute lbd in your closet for instant fashion and style.

There comes a time when summer dresses aren’t just beach cover ups. Do you have an internship this summer? Are you ready to dress for success? Internship style guides show that office dress code can be vague and definitely vary depending on location and business. Today I’ve chosen
5 Work Dresses When You’re an Intern
A power color and scalloped hem give this short sleeve sheath dress an easy style. This shift is dressy enough to wear at work, but casual enough to find off duty occasions to wear it as well.
I featured this blue and white striped dress in my post on striped dresses, but it’s worth listing again. A bias cut sleeveless shift has a great spot in any wardrobe. If you like blue and white stripes, this dress should be a wardrobe basic this summer.
Blue and white but with a totally different vibe, this shift dress plays with pattern and a range of blue colors on a conservative jewel neck short sleeve pattern. It’s a classic shape with a great pattern that fits into many internship settings.
The notched neckline gives an edge to this magenta knit dress. Clever, ever so clever that long center pattern piece that lengthens your torso for a smooth statement at your summer workplace. The raglan sleeve shaping creates a cap sleeve. This sheath dress blends with a variety of style statements. Depending on your work setting you can wear a blazer, jacket or cardi.
Don’t like sleeves but love the vibrant color? Try this sleeveless crew neck sheath. Neckline darts create a very 2016 statement dress shape. The jersey knit is a comfortable fit for long days at your internship with perhaps a networking event after. The sheath is perfect for day to night professional dress.
Hopefully you’re inspired to dress for your summer internship. Your budget will be happy to hear that all of these work appropriate dresses are priced under $100. Good luck at work and don’t forget to dress for success!
