After posting about long strapless prom gowns, I realize that I’d neglected the entire spectrum of short prom dresses. Really?  How could that be? Apparently, striking Hollywood photos of early strapless gowns kept my vision narrow. A quick peek at the 2015 designer collections show the range of short formal gowns. Prom dresses can go short or long in many schools, so here I am to make amends.

    5 Irresistible Short Prom Dresses

PromGirl La Scala strapless prom gowns

Beaded short formal dress from La Scala

Beaded, beautiful, bold, this La Scala strapless formal dress makes a cosmopolitan statement. Geometric shapes and contrasting colors create a tonal silhouette with a pop of light turquoise to keep the energy high. With its sweetheart neckline and the angled back, the curves contrast with angles in the beaded body. Available in sizes 0 – 18, I could easily see the entire prom court or a bridal party in this fabulous short formal dress.

PromGirl Sherri Hill short prom gown

    Sherri Hill pleated formal dress

No detail is left unturned in Sherri Hill’s short formal dress. The short pleated organza skirt, satin waistband and sash, lace bodice and sheer cap sleeves check every part of my list. It’s romantic, fun and totally on trend with its angled open back. You may ask, “Is this a strapless dress?”

I’m glad you did! I believe it falls in that category, as the sweetheart bodice underneath the sheer lace shoulder has cups to hold everything in place – as any well constructed strapless dress should do.

PromGirl sheer lace short prom gown

    Sheer layer short prom dress

Here’s another great example of a modern take on the short strapless formal dress. This sheer illusion dress really covers your back and shoulders, but the final look is strapless. Beads embellish the lace appliqué. The energy continues with the tulle skirt, layered for fullness and finished with a fishline hem.

PromGirl Dave Johnny short lace prom gown

Dave and Johnny sheer lace dress

With a high neck, one might first see this short Dave and Johnny dress as a conservative choice. The strapless understructure, sheer panels and boning make it a sexy but sweet choice for prom. Racerback styling with a keyhole cut out gives a sporty edge to the large scale floral lace motifs. This strapless dress is too cute to pass by, for sure.

PromGirl Sherri Hill beaded strapless short prom gown

    Sherri Hill strapless short dress

I finish today’s list of short strapless dresses with Sherri Hill’s cascading beaded dress. The classic sweetheart bodice and flared organza skirt are embellished with vertical lines of coordinating sequins. Sparkle confidently when you step into prom, thanks to its great understructure. What a dream formal dress; one you will love to wear again.

Looking at this gorgeous choices, I wonder how I ever could forget short strapless formal dresses on my prom shopping wish list?
