To think that lace was once a fabric only for royals! Five hundred years ago, lace makers worked hours to create a lace collar or trim. Thanks to technology, now everyone can enjoy lace, and not just for special occasions. It’s great to see how this classic fabric appears in new ways. Here’s three lace trimmed dresses that mix lace with other fabrics.

Floral prints mix beautifully with lace

A floral print and braided belt mix beautifully in a strapless casual dress. Taking lace out of the special occasion category, this is an three season dress that you can slip on and go! The lace bodice works well with a jean jacket for Saturday farmer’s market or head downtown for a music festival.  Jeans and lace?  Who would guess?

For a more formal occasion, lace is a time honored choice, but this party dress plays the lining for a sexy slant. Cutting away the lining in the center bodice panel and upper chest lets the lace do the work.

    What a sexy party dress!

If you’re not ready for something quite that daring, then I suggest the lovely lace inlays in this blue sleeveless dress. The bodice top and back feature royal blue lace inserts that give a nice shot of special to a dress that takes you from the office to parties.

Chipping at crumbling conventionalism, white isn’t just for summer any more. Winter white accessories and wardrobe basics look crisp against neutrals and are a perfect backdrop for a pop of color! Last September, Nina Garcia said:

“White after Labor Day is a mainstay”

and another chunk of crumbling fashion conventionalism collapsed. Mix and match your favorite accessories with these three winter white dresses.

Lace peplum dress with v back

For parties or the office, this lace peplum dress works well for the temperature swings. Pair a slinky bolero or tuxedo jacket and a touches of black to finish off your dress. Choose a cap toe bootie for day or ankle strap sandal for evenings out. This sleeveless, V back dress is an elegant base layer for day to night.

For more casual days, try this winter white sleeveless shirt dress.  Is it the rhinestone collar or the black bow that gives this dress a happy go lucky feeling? Sheer inlays over the shoulder and upper back keep it from going too cow girl.  But I could imagine pairing this with boots and a jean jacket this fall.

Love the sheer inlay and black bow!

For more drama, a winter white high low dress floats above it all. The center panel features tiny tucks that echo on the bodice, scoop back and lining. Winter white ribbon emphasizes seam curves, balancing the beautiful drape of this v neck dress. What a perfect party dress!
