Sequins shimmered on the runway for both day and night wear last spring. The Huff Post predicts more sparkle in bridal fashions as well. Will sequins rule the world?  I guess I’m a bit traditional.  I like the idea of sequins for evenings or special occasions: a party, New Year’s Eve, a night out dancing.  For example, how about these 5  frocks?

Shop PromGirl Dave and Johnny illusion sequin cocktail dress

Dave and Johnny illusion sequin dress

I would love an excuse to frolic in this frock by Dave and Johnny! They are right on target with this mix of illusion and sequin cocktail dress. I love the bodice on this party dress.  And the plunging v neck back is ever so sexy. Though silver is a top trend this season, the dark rose and plum color ways tempt me the most.

Shop PromGirl for silver sequin party dresses

Black and silver illusion party dress

Irresistibly romantic and sparkly describes this black and silver party dress.  Once again, sheer illusion fabric on the bodice transforms this jewel neck dress.  On the back, there’s a keyhole cut out.  It’s a party shape that will always be elegant and playful.

Shop PromGirl for navy sequin party dresses

    Spaghetti strap sequin dress

This spaghetti strap dress has been selling like hotcakes at PromGirl.  Who will be the lucky ones to snatch a gorgeous navy sequin dress? Perfect for parties, true? All right, I admit I’d probably invent excuses to wear this cocktail dress.

Shop PromGirl for strapless sequin party dresses

Black and white strapless sequin dress

Think of the styling possibilities if this strapless black and white dress graced my closet! This is a sequin dress that I could actually imagine wearing for a formal day occasion, thanks to mixing with sequins and the surplice bodice.

Scala sequin formal dresses - PromGirl

Scala ivory sequin one shoulder dress

True, I’ve already blogged about one shoulder sequin dresses. But Scala’s semi formal sequin dress deserves a definite mention.  Available in a wide range of colors, this sequin dress is edged with beaded bands that are really stunning.

Scrolling through the pages of beautiful sequin dresses has me rethinking the whole sequin dress for day wear… What do you think? Could you style sequin dresses for daytime wear?

You’ve been invited to a military ball where service members are requested to wear military blues or ASU. If you are female and a service member (thank you!), you’ll know what to wear. If your date is the service member, it’s your chance to wear a formal dress. Here are three great dresses for an elegant evening that honors their service.

    PromGirl Mori Lee Strapless Gown

    Mori Lee Strapless Ball Gown

If tradition and the invitation requires a ball gown, then a strapless beaded gown from Mori Lee is a perfect fit. Layers of tulle and ruffles support the long skirt, creating a full silhouette and emphasizing a tiny waist.  Colored beads radiate all over the sweetheart bodice, with darker beads concentrated near the waist, further emphasizing an hourglass shape. This ball gown is perfect for a fairytale princess, yet inspired by today’s fashion trends.

Love the accordion pleated skirt on this formal dress

This one shoulder gown boasts rucheing and beads to create a dramatic statement. Accordion pleats create a full skirt and a trim  silhouette.  Even with these great details, this beautiful gown costs less than $100! Beautiful and budget conscious, can you beat that?

    Military ball gowns at PromGirl

    Flowing chiffon Deep V neck

How can you resist chiffon? I love the way layers combine in this flowing V neck gown. From the beaded waist band to the butterfly sleeves, romance and formality combine in a way that may be just the right fit for a military ball.

There’s so many great gowns in the military ball dress section of the PromGirl web site… choosing just one will be difficult for sure! You and your escort will look fabulous at the reception line and after the colors are retired.  We salute you!

Certain occasions call for a party dress that will live longer in your closet than on the dance floor. When you’re a bridesmaid, a formal ball or prom, a one night dress is fine by me. For other occasions, the frugal fashion fiend in me asks, “Will you wear that dress again?” “Could it work at New Year’s Eve and summer weddings?”

Why not? With the right neckline, fabric and cut, a party dress should look great charity galas, dances and cocktail parties. Here’s four party dresses perfect to wear all year long.

    PromGirl sells LaFemme party dresses

A short V neck party dress from La Femme

Angled piecing alternates sequins and fabric to create a beautiful V neck dress from LaFemme. The drama continues on the back side with a deep V as well. This classic sleeveless dress silhouette looks current year after year.  Mix textures by adding a faux fur caplet as you head into winter formal events. This dress will not sit in your closet often!

Shop PromGirl for belted party dresses

    Belted V neck party dress

Not into sequins? Then try this belted party dress. With a deep V neck in the front and the back, you still get to show off your shoulder. Gracious gathers project a more romantic theme. To top it off, this sleeveless dress comes in under $50.  At this price, you may want one in every color!

Shop PromGirl for strapless party dresses

    Strapless metallic party dress

Available in silver or gold, this strapless party dress is a perfect choice for gala events all year long. With its origami flower at the waist and the pin tucks that swirl down the bodice and skirt, this semi formal dress is spectacular. I could easily see this as a bridesmaid dress for an evening wedding and rocking on the dance floor New Year’s Eve.

Shop promgirl for one shoulder party dresses

One Shoulder Party Dress with chiffon drape

With its sheer drape, this one shoulder party dress catches a rising trend. Gentle rucheing at the waist kicks the asymmetrical movement down the skirt. Beading emphasizes that movement, adding just a touch of bling. Choose from black, red or navy depending on the message this party dress should send: classic, powerful or fashion forward.

These are definitely fun and versatile dresses. Looks like my New Year’s resolution should be  to invent more parties!
