Prom Style Inspiration 2014: Carolina Kostner

Looking for inspiration for your prom style? With the Olympic Games at Sochi in full swing, what about Russian culture, the international vibe and of course, the athletes themselves? Some sports showcase technologically advanced fabrics or better dynamics in garment cut. There's plenty of fashion inspiration in the ice skating competition. And a leader of that pack is Italian Carolina Kostner.

Early in her international competitive career, Roberto Cavalli began designing Carolina's skating costumes. Blending sheer panels, lace, and beads, Carolina's graceful style has grown ever more elegant. Which leads me to wonder; what might Carolina wear to prom?

After watching Carolina's Ave Maria short program for the team qualifiers, Sherri Hill's high low strapless dress came immediately to mind. Beads edging the plunging sweetheart neckline add sparkle, and the handkerchief edging of the high low skirt adds drama.

And while she might not wear it on the ice, Carolina would totally rock JVN by Jovani's mermaid gown. Once again, beads embellish the strapless sweetheart neckline. Lace fabric covers the entire gown with mesh inserts at the skirt godets.

Many of Carolina's skating costumes feature deep V necks that lengthen her overall profile. For a dramatic floor length formal gown, Carolina might choose Primavera's floor length sequin dress with side cut outs. While the back features intersecting lines, the front wows the crowd with a deep V.

And for a killer red carpet look that epitomizes her style, I think Sherri Hill's strapless ball gown would be a great choice. The full skirt extends from a beaded waist. The fitted strapless bodice looks fabulous with or without the shoulder wrap.

Skater or not, Carolina's elegant style may be yours as well! Are there other floor length formal dressesyou'd recommend?
