March 31 is #NationalPromDay, and PromGirl is celebrating to raise funds for Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). Life is full of decisions that aren’t always easy. SADD helps build skills to make positive choices. You can donate directly to SADD or buy your prom dress from PromGirl on March 31, 2016 and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to SADD.

Sherri Hill is joining in this effort, joining a Twitter Party  on March 31 from 6 to 7 EST. Since launching her formal wear brand in 2008, Sherri has led prom trends and red carpet looks for a young, fashion forward, discerning market.

Here are a few of my favorite Sherri Hill gowns for 2016:

Pleated chiffon and tonal beading create beautiful texture in this floor length halter gown.

PromGirl Sherri Hill cold shoulder prom dress

Embellished shoulders and waist give this cold shoulder gown dramatic impact.

PromGirl Sherri Hill embroidered halter crop top prom dress

    Embroidered crop top gown

This spectacular ivory embroidered two piece halter dress is jaw droopingly beautiful.

Sherri Hill’s support is so welcome on National Prom Day. That’s why PromGirl is encouraging past and current prom goers to post their prom photos with #NationalPromDay. We aren’t alone in these tough decisions. During prom season, let’s hope the tough choices are choosing the best dress. When things get more complex, let’s support SADD with their efforts to make positive choices.

If you’re shopping for short prom dresses, don’t forget a great pair of shoes! One of the many advantages of short prom gowns is choosing a fun pair of heels to show off.  My shoe fetish continues to roll, so here are

Short Prom Dresses Paired with Fab Heels

PromGirl Faviana open back short black prom dress

Faviana uses sequins and sheer inserts

Totally sophisticated and elegant, this Faviana short prom dress uses sheer inserts and geometric sequin motifs to create a slim silhouette. Which shoe do I choose?

    PromGirl high heel sandal

    Lotus heel with sheer inserts

The Lotus  echoes those trim lines and sheer inserts. The ankle strap secures your fit in the 3 ½” heels. This high heel would look great with the Faviana open back dress.

PromGirl short strapless sweetheart chiffon short prom dress

    Strapless sweetheart chiffon dress

An adorable chiffon strapless dress features a pleated sweetheart neckline with a flared ruched bodice and a gathered full skirt. Available in a myriad of colors, who can resist a modern twist on the classic short prom dress?

When choosing a cute heel to coordinate with this prom dress, I’m choosing a modern interpretation of a t strap heel. This 2 ¾” heel features an embellished t and three thin bands across the toe.

    PromGirl t strap prom shoes

    Bronze T strap

PromGirl lace off the shoulder short prom dress

    Off the shoulder lace dress

Want a slim profile with romantic sophistication? Definitely consider this off the shoulder lace dress. The long lace sleeves provide sheer coverage. With a lining that matches the stretch lace, the body conscious short prom dress will work at future cocktail parties or semi formal receptions.

PromGirl black platform peep toe prom sandals

Platform peep toe heels for prom

I almost hesitate to say it after my post on short heels for prom. This fabulous 5″ heels with a 1 ½” platform would be a fabulous match for the short lace prom dress. Don’t you love them? These heels have the ever so trendy peep toe, embellished with tiny black rivets and an ankle strap to steady you on the dance floor.

Prom and high heels are an attractive combo. Even the American Podiatric Medical Association admits that wearing heels on special nights is fine, as long as the shoes fit properly. What should we look for when shopping for the perfect heel for prom?

    Cushioned High Heel Toe Bed

Ideally, the high heels you choose should have a cushioned toe bed. Walk with your ankle hitting the ground first to keep the weight off your toes. You can always purchase cushion inserts if the shoes otherwise fit well.

    PromGirl silver platform high heels

    Marlena Silver Platform Pumps

    Closed Toe Heels

If you plan on dancing a lot, avoid peep toe shoes. When you dance, your feet will slide forward. A closed toe shoe box keeps the heels from pushing your toes beyond comfort.

Planning to peep at others from the sidelines? Then peep toe heels are fine for you! The Marlena silver high heels feature a closed toe shoe box and platform heels for extra height. The 3 ½” heels are more comfortable thanks to the platform.

    PromGirl silver sneaker under 50

Lexi Silver Sneakers before high heels

Alternate Flats with “Taxi to Table” Heels

It happens: the most gorgeous, irresistible pair of high heels combines beautifully with your dress. Deep down, you know you can’t wear them all night.

Let a cute ballerina or even sparkling silver sneaker cuddle your feet until those show stopping heels hit the floor at prom.

Whether you choose a ballerina flat or silver sneaker, your feet will thank you for it!

PromGirl Sparkle wedge t strap high heel

Nude wedge T strap high heels

    Wedge Heels

A good wedge heel can give you the support not always found in a high heel. If you choose a tall wedge high heel, wear them around the house to get the feel for it. The more straps, the less likely you’ll roll your ankle.

The Madison wedge heel has an ankle strap, T strap and three thin straps across your toes that support your love of high heels.

Dancing in a high wedge heel? Practice makes perfect. If you already own a short wedge heel, begin practicing with that, building skills for the higher shoe.

PromGirl 3 inch closed toe black pump

    Marissa closed toe black pump

Heels with a Good Toe Box

Whatever the height, ample room in the toe box will make the night more comfortable. As the high heels push your feet forward, your feet may swell. Don’t start the night with tight shoes or straps.

If you tried on the Marissa black pumps, don’t let the great shape distract you. Do your feet accommodate the pointy toe (it can be done)? Does your instep slide nicely into the high heel? If the answer is no, just don’t do it! Find another high heel that fits right.

    PromGirl peep toe high heels

    Lotus Dyables peep toe

    Ankle Strap Heels

Planning on dancing every track? Ankle straps on your high heels let your feet move without the shoe flying away. They also prevent ankle roll.

Lotus peep toe booties combine with the super trendy for a high heel that works with both short and long prom dresses.

It’s Prom, of course you can wear high heels! Show off fabulous shoes at your party of the year. Choose wisely and you’ll have great memories of your prom shoes.

    March 21st, 2016Alanna NelsonProm, Shoes

On prom night, let me dance and have fun. That means wearing heels less than three inches. Don’t take me wrong, heels are fun to look at… they just aren’t that comfortable to wear. A low heel sandal looks great with the prom dress. In a floor length prom gown, I’m already not used to the extra long skirt. Do I want to worry about looking like a fool in high heels? No, sir!

5 Lovely Low Heel Sandals for Prom

    PromGirl Silver Taryn Touchups Heels

Taryn by Touch Ups in Silver

A strappy sandal with a 2″ heel, the Taryn by Touch Ups in silver lengthens your legs without ruining your stride. Silver sandals for prom are all the rage in 2016. Adjustable ankle straps keep those short heels in place even if you kick up your feet.

PromGirl Page prom beaded low wedge sandals

Paige wedge sandals with 2 ¾” heels

Paige features a 2 ¾ inch heel in a nude wedge sandal. The beads add a sparkling touch, giving an extra dressy look to these ultra comfy prom shoes. A low heel wedge sandal offers a lot of support while dancing and waiting in line for the promenade.

    PromGirl beaded flat dress sandals

    Lilly beaded flat sandals

Don’t like heels at all? Get that criss cross style and a flat heel with the Lilly beaded sandals. While the beads dress up the flat sandals, I could imagine plenty of other summer special occasions (graduation or  summer wedding receptions, anyone) to wear these cute sandals.

    PromGirl silver kitten heel shoe

    Avery silver kitten heel sandal

Boasting a sweet 1″ heel, these T strap kitten heel sandals work with both traditional or trendy prom gowns. The peep toe shoes off your pedicure, but the wider strap is less like to result in blisters than a strappy sandal might.

    PromGirl embellished ballerina flat

    Hanna sparkling ballerina flat

Looking for a flat with sparkle? Hanna, the ballerina flat could be your answer. Embellished fabric and the classic princess style works for any type or length of prom dress.

PromGirl low heel pewter rhinestone t strap sandal

Jazz the low heel rhinestone T strap

Jazz is a versatile sandal for prom with a rocker vibe. There’s a strong energy in this T strap sandal with a one inch wedge heel. Break them in for prom, but enjoy these sandals all summer long.

All of these short heel prom sandals are available in sizes 5 -11 (with Taryn also available in size 12). How low will you go? Dance with style, confidence and comfort wearing these great sandals, each with one to three inch heels.
