What does sexy mean to you? I think it means you feel strong, self-confident and comfortable in your own skin. Maybe the definition changed over time. Ask the dictionary, and “erotic” and “appealing” are synonyms. Ok, that works, I guess, but not really. There’s more to the word, don’t you think?
Search for sexy prom dresses at PromGirl, and you’ll find a variety of styles. Here’s three that caught my eye.
Maybe what’s sexy to you won’t show up in the list. The silver blue sequin dress wasn’t included in the PromGirl search. LaFemme’s strapless beaded prom dress gets its energy from the person who wears it. The black and white long dress is edgy and strong. Season trends definitely shape what’s on the market, but you get to define sexy for yourself.
Here’s to finding the prom dress that is sexy, comfortable and gives you that extra spring on your prom night.

Since launching her own design house in 2008, Sherri Hill’s evening wear has taken the prom and celebrity scene by storm. Selena Gomez, Bella Thorne, Renee Olmstead, Diana Argon, Miranda Lambert, Laura Bell Bundy, Martina McBride, and Carrie Underwood all choose Sherri Hill for their red carpet moments. But it’s not just in the USA! Sherri Hill gowns have a strong following around the world. Here’s the runway show from the Spring 2013 New York fashion week.
At PromGirl, we are proud to offer Sherri Hill gowns. Whether for prom, pageant, wedding or any formal occasion, we offer a wide selection of both long and short dresses.
Many of her styles come in a range of trending and classic color choices, which makes it perfect for you to coordinate with your prom or wedding style. Hats off to Sherri for taking her experience and launching her own line! -

Red is strong and confident. It is powerful and impossible to ignore. Red for prom? Most definitely! At PromGirl, we’re always a believer in wearing your invisible tiara, but we’re all about showing that crown in other ways, too.
I kid you not, we’ve got pages upon pages of red gowns for prom (and if red isn’t your thing, use the color search tool to let you choose prom dresses in other colors). It wasn’t easy but here’s four of my favorite long red evening dresses… did I miss something?
There’s no missing this stunning open back long dress by Flirt. Its front halter bodice features angled tucks embellished with beads.
See how those same details echo in the back? Look how the center back gather pools gracefully into a train. Dramatic and graceful.
If you like the open back idea, but aren’t so sure about the train, then this one shoulder prom dress with beaded side cut outs might be the right choice for you.
The cut is so cosmopolitan and I love the curves, which the sparkling sequins totally highlight.
Did you see how the dress shimmers? That fabric is perfectly slinky.
Both of these dresses wear easily and comfortably all night long. After all, who wants to be fussing with slipping, wiggling and tugging when you’re showing your power? No, no, no, such distractions keep you away from the fun. It’s your night out, not your night to run to the bathroom 12 times to adjust your dress. But I digress…
Equally wearable but with a whole different style is Flirt’s strapless beaded chiffon long dress. The layers of chiffon swish as you move, and the careful beading and sequins on the ruched bodice follow that flow.
Strapless with an empire waist, this ethereal and dynamic dress is definitely a regal choice for prom or formal evening wear.
When we’re talking red, it makes sense to “pump up the volume.” For my last pick, I wanted to choose a red prom dress that kept the volume up. Thinking about this season’s prom trends, a mermaid dress came to mind. Still not easy to choose!
In the end, I flipped a coin and chose La Femme’s strapless ruched mermaid dress.
Playing with sheer red fabric and a nude colored base layer, the details go to the max. The overlapping ruched line down the center of the dress lengthens the torso so the mermaid skirt doesn’t overwhelm.
True to La Femme’s great style, beads follow the mermaid skirt’s lines. This is really a breathtaking way to wear red.
Whew! Choosing one red prom dress would be tough! If you’re wearing red, how will you decide on the style? Click on over to PromGirl at Polyvore for collections of red long prom dresses and red formal dresses.

Designers have taken the high low dress and reinterpreted it in many ways for proms and formals this year. We’ve got pages of high low formal and prom dresses but let me show you some of my favorites:
This high low print dress by Dave and Johnny is so fun! Its ruffles cascade vertically, which is such a cool look when you walk. Add the beaded side cuts outs and the ruched bodice keep the energy high. This is a great formal party or prom dress that you can wear at other special occasions.
Planning on an elegant, sparkling look for your prom? Try this strapless sequin dress by Night Moves. The ombre bodice is covered in sequins and the sheer high low skirt layers shimmer like falling stars. Choose turquoise (pictured here), fuchsia, white or black to catch your personality or prom theme exactly.
High low dresses are great for showing off your legs and they’re easy to wear when dancing. Not often that formal dresses mix beauty with practical, is it? On the other hand, high low dresses show a bit of independence, and a bit of “I’ll wear it the way I like it” or “don’t cage me in.” Maybe I read too much into this…
Now, for the girl who’s ready to dance all night, I totally think this sapphire blue sequin prom dress by Hailey Logan is perfect.
Maybe it’s the strapless sequin underdress. Maybe it’s the ruched empire waist, or perhaps I just like the layers of the high low skirt. In some ways it’s all feminine, and yet there’s determination and sophistication at its core.
All I know is that it would look great at prom, formals, wedding receptions, galas. What do you think?
Finally, let me show you all of the careful workmanship in La Femme’s chiffon sequin high low dress. Notice how the sequin color changes from the golden sweetheart bodice, through the waist and shaped out to the hips? This dress is as beautiful from the back as it is in the front.
If you’re thinking that high low prom dresses are the right choice for you, be sure to check them out at PromGirl. Which are your favorite?
